Stena confirms name of third E-Flexer for Stena Line service

FERRYAs expected, the third E-Flexer for Stena Line service will be named STENA EMBLA, meaning the “the first female, created by gods” according to Norse mythology.

The keel of STENA EMBLA was laid on 18 April at the AVIC Weihai Shipyard, only three days after the float out of the second E-Flexer, STENA EDDA. Float out of STENA EMBLA will follow in less than six months.

STENA EDDA is set for delivery in spring next year, with STENA EMBLA following a few months later. Both ships, which have a length of 214.5m and  27.8m beam, will serve the domestic Birkenhead (Liverpool)-Belfast service, replacing smaller Visentini Class ro-pax ferries.

The E-Flexer series currently stretches to nine vessels and Stena RoRo holds an option for two more units. Five ships in the series – including two lengthened versions – will join Stena Line, three will be long-term chartered by Brittany Ferries and one will be long-term chartered by DFDS for service across the Dover Strait.
